Is Steemit a Legit site?

I am right know writing different posts for Steemit but i am confuse that is Steemit a legit site that pays people or not. As everybody knows that steemit pay money to the people using her blockchain concept but i am curious that can Steemit also pay money?

The other Question that i want to ask is that:

What is the business model of Steemit? Like a site will only pay you if that site earn money from ads or something else but in steemit i don't see anything like ads shit.
