Why learn Machine Learning

download.jpg
If you are an engineering student with Computer Science related majors, you might have asked yourself this question at one point or another. Machine Learning has been depicted as the bubble, the savior, the trend, the hype , the cool stuff and so on. So is the next big thing, or a very small man casting a very big shadow?

One might find the opinions widely diverse and confusing. But don't worry, machine learning is more than capable of finding out and differentiate between the segments supporting it, and the ones against it. Spooky....... Isn't it ?

Machine Learning is the rave of the moment. Tons of companies are going all out to hire competent engineers, as ML is gradually becoming the brain behind business intelligence. Through it, businesses are able to master consumers’ preferences thereby increasing profits. Yes, no matter what they say, its all about the money.

In terms of higher education, although ML is relatively widespread, I believe higher education has barely scratched the surface of the potential for machine learning. At the same time, I do not mean to suggest that no one is doing this kind of work. Rather, the pieces of the puzzle are joining itself with time to reveal the bigger picture.

IMO, if Machine Learning had a voice of it's own ( Fingers crossed) , it would just say " I'm not about caring, I'm about winning ". So yeah, if you have a mind analytical enough to handle the complex mathematical concepts along with the programming skills required (or you really want to play ping-pong at your workplace in the pretense of "training" your data), you should just go for it!

P.S. There are three movie/TV series references in the article. Let's see who's the first one to find them all
