Cryptomnesia or Flat Out Plagiarism?

Cryptomnesia-And-Plagiarism.jpg

Can a masterpiece ever be duplicated? Apparently, yes, and sometimes the duper takes credit for the work without ever knowing it wasn't their original work. This memory malfunction is called Cryptomnesia.

If you've never heard of Cryptomnesia, you're not alone. However, it is not a rare phenomenon. Famous authors and artists have been accused of plagiarizing some of their most popular works. Can it be believed that these people mistook memories as thoughts and ideas of their own creation? How can this subconscious plagiarism be distinguished from conscious acts of plagiarism?

What do you think? Is Cryptomnesia the cause of famous incidents of plagiarism.. or nah?
