A Brief Absence
I see by checking my activities that the last time I commented or voted on Hive was two days ago. I don't use automatic voting, so there has been radio silence on my end for two days. Fortunately, I'm still here, but life has been complicated. It has been so complicated that I feel as though I've been away for two weeks.
Much has happened in the past few days.
On Thursday, August 20, my son and I rushed my husband to the emergency room. He was having a cardiac event that caused him to fall at home and collapse on his way into the ER. Things were touch and go for at least twenty-four hours. Scary. The ER doctors asked about resuscitation, a living will, and my role as healthcare proxy.
My husband spent part of that first day in the ER and the next two days in the ICU unit. Yesterday he came home with medication and directions to see a cardiologist ASAP.
Hive was a distant thought in my head, not completely gone, but so far away I couldn't deal with it. To me Hive is not a platform. Hive is not about crypto. Hive is people (sounds like a line out of Soylent Green, but the line expresses a truth for me).
My lovely co-team members in the Inkwell picked up the slack for me with such kindness and grace (thank you @gracielaacevedo and thank you @jayna) that my spirits were lifted.
I'm writing today to tell my other friends on Hive that my absence doesn't signify indifference. There is just no room, or at least there wasn't, for anything but concern for my husband.
I don't know what the next few days, or the future, holds for him or me. Hive has been going through a rough patch lately. I don't want my lack of activity to be interpreted as an indication that tough times are affecting my commitment. Far from it.
The more this platform, the Hive community, needs me, the more I will be committed to its success. It's just that, sometimes, life tells us we don't have a choice. Sometimes life tells us what we have to do and we must comply.
My husband is home, medicated, peaceful and relatively happy. I'm a little busy and very tired but I'm back, although perhaps with a more muted profile.
My husband enjoys my participation in Hive. Even when he was in the ICU unit (after his heart rhythm had stabilized) he was reporting to me on activity he saw on my account. He might have been hooked up to a heart monitor and an IV, but he was also hooked up to his iPad and his phone. He was following the news, watching a pool tournament, and checking on Hive.
What caused this episode? Hard to tell. As I wrote in my previous blog, he underwent microwave ablation of an adrenal tumor seven days before his heart episode. It is very likely that the stress of that procedure caused systemic inflammation and this precipitated the wildly irregular heart rhythm. Doctors in the emergency room did not seem to focus on that but I've been doing my reading and have learned that this connection is at least a strong possibility.
The next step will be to find out what caused the acute episode. Medications to treat an irregular heart rhythm are quite serious and can have grave side effects. We would like those medications to be prescribed for the right reason, if at all, so there is going to be a bit of serious detective work to come up with an answer.
Anyone who reads my blog knows I will take an active role in the detective work. So, I'm signing off from this brief blog. I will go check out the activities of the last few days on Hive and will do my best to support good posts.
Until next time, thank you for reading. Peace and health to all. Hive on!

I doubt anyone here would think your actions signify indifference toward Hive.
I wish your husband a speedy, full recovery. Knowing the work you will do as his advocate, I have no doubt about it.

Stay strong! ♥️ The important thing is health. I hope your husband always happy, can through all of the things happen very well ♥️
This is life. Can be unpedictable but we can choose how we react.
Hug.
Sending well wishes and healing thoughts your husband's way. As far as the very short absence from Hive. We all have loves off the blockchain too. We understand. Take your time, catch up if you like and we will see in in the feeds soon.
Hello dear @owasco. Thank you. 🌹
Wise words, my friend @anggreklestari. We can choose how we react. This is life and nobody gets a pass. The test is, how do we handle ourselves.
Thank you for your kind, kind wishes.
Funny thing is, it didn't feel like a brief absence. It's hard to believe the whole thing just took three days.
Thanks for your good wishes, @coinjoe. I do very much appreciate them.
Dear @agmoore, it's true that there are moments that seem to stretch out in time, they are the difficult moments, they are a real challenge. Sometimes we don't know how we have been so strong to face them well. Time is so relative, right? The important thing now is to keep ourselves in the intense experience of peace and happiness. Many good wishes for you and your husband. I love that while connected to a heart monitor and an IV, he continued to take care of your activity on Hive. A man who knows how to connect. Blessings to him! 🤗
Hello my dear friend @gracielaacevedo. You always have wisdom to share. Know that I take your words to heart.
Yes! I was stunned when he referred to my blog. He's a real team player.
Thank you, dear @gracielaacevedo for your kind words.
♥️
Take care. Best wishes to you and your husband.
Hearing about the emergency and ICU stay is heartbreaking, but what a relief to know he is home safe and sound now.
The image of him monitoring Hive and watching a pool tournament straight from an ICU bed shows just how strong his spirit is! You are an amazing advocate for his health. Take all the time you need to rest and care for each other—we're sending you both our warmest wishes and healing energy.
You and your husband have been through so much in such a short time 😔 and somehow I missed your previous post (I just read it too) or I would have known. I'm glad to hear your husband is home, peaceful and doing well. I notice you enjoy research so your instinct to look into what happened is a good one.
Hive will still be here so I hope you give yourself permission to rest. Wishing him steady healing and better, calmer days ahead for you and your family. Do take care. 🌹
Oh goodness me, you are a bloody treasure. Fancy thinking about Hive during such a crisis. Yet, I get it too - Hive is a kind of home.
There's bound to be dramatic episodes like this given his treatment. I remember Dad would be ticking along nicely and then they would be some side effect or another causing him to be rushed again into hospital. Par for the course - I'm sure.
You do remind me of my Mum, you know. She had a folder full of notes and often knew more than the varying doctors about what had been prescribed, if not what exactly they were for! This was lucky as Dad had no bloody idea.
Do NOT think you need to be here. Do what is best for you and yours. Of course, if that means being on Hive, pull up a pew, make a cuppa, and take a load off.
Hello Mr Agmore. Do take care. Xx 💞
Dear @agmoore !
Madame!
I hope you can focus on your husband's treatment without any mental burden!
In particular, I hope you do not forget that you must take care of your own health first to help your husband recover!
God bless you!
🌹🌹🌹
Thank you.
Thank you very much, @ekads. This is why I thought of Hive. This is why my husband checked on Hive. It's not crypto to us. It's a community. It's people, people like you.
Thank you, again.
Hello my dear friend @kemmyb.
My husband and I are old, but life is precious. As long as we can live comfortably, we hold onto it. The doctor in the emergency room was trying to talk me into a DNR--do not resuscitate. To him my husband was an old man with stage 4 cancer. He didn't see the person I took home with me Saturday. We have to keep things in perspective, always, but life is precious as long as it is good. For us, right now it still is.
It was a terrible time, but it's over, at least for a while.
Thank you very, very much for your thoughtful, kind comment.
Yes! And right now I'm tearing up 🌺
It's hard when you're sick. Not only are you tired and not feeling well, but the whole thing is frightening. Your Dad trusted your Mum. My husband trusts me completely. Quite a responsibility for us, but who else can do it?
I actually do love Hive...not the financial part of it, or the politics, back and forth, but the culture I choose to be a part of. I am not a social person, but you'd never know that from my Hive participation. Here I am social. A great gift.
Thank you for the kindness and the insight, my friend from down under :)
You just touched my heart with this. That’s exactly what makes this space so special—the people and the real connections we share.
Sending warm wishes to you and your husband. Take it easy and rest up!
Now you sound like one of my children :)
Nobody lives forever, but if life is good we hold onto it. That's what we are trying to do. Thank you very, very much @goldgrifin007 for your sincere wishes. I send my regards to your mother and my sincere wishes for her good health.
Hi, @agmoore! I am sorry to read about this. Hard moments to go through, actually. But, as your husband, I know you are strong enough to deal with this situation. Wish him a speedy recovery, and big hug to you!
Knew there was a reason for your silence. Indeed, in real life dictates. When it calls, we have to answer away from online. If not, we won't be able to do online at all. Sending prayers to your husband for his full recovery and to finding out the cause of his episode so that as you say "the right medication" is being prescribed. I also send prayers to you as caregiver to uphold your strength and fortitude as you hold everything together.
Your commitment to Hive is unquestionable. And I've known your commitment to your family is equal. Just don't overload and wear yourself out trying to accomplish at the same high level. Rest and take care. Have as good of the rest of your week as possible.
I saw a post from @whatsup being suprised there was still people around. This is why there is people still around. xx
🌹🌹
Thank you very much, @gabmr. The one thing you fall back on in times like this is love. That's the strength. I think we have enough of that.
Very nice to see you here. I hope you are well and peaceful.
Hello my friend @justclickindiva,
We called his oncologist today and asked him to hook us up with an appropriate cardiologist, a cardio-oncologist. This is someone who can tease out what caused the episode. Finding that, he can help us manage whatever it is that's wrong. I have much less stress now because I can give that responsibility over to someone who knows what they are doing. He will work with my husband's care team. They have been managing my husband's illness for 2 1/2 years so I have confidence.
Thank you for your very kind wishes. I somehow thought you might notice my absence. I appreciate that you did 🌹
2 days?!? How could you?
Breaks to deal with real life stuff are so much more important than anything here. The community keeps the lights on while people come and go.
I know. It's just, these are such hard times for Hive. I didn't want to add to the general malaise. My husband and I share this hobby, even though he doesn't blog he reads all my stuff and follows everything. It's a nice hobby for old people :)) It's better than bowling on most days 😇

Excellent news on a referral who knows both sides of the situation. It's a start. Another set of eyes on the situation sifting through the info is always helpful. Take care.
I'm really sorry to hear your news. It must have been terrifying indeed. All my best wishes for a speedy recovery.
Dear @agmoore !
My mother is the same age as you!
My father has currently collapsed from a stroke, so she is taking care of him!
I hope your health and long life!
Mom!
🌟🌹
Thank you my friend @deirdyweirdy. We all go through it in one way or another, don't we?
Someday (when?) I will become one of the 'disappeared' on Hive. I didn't want my friends to think I was indifferent :)
A stroke! Terrible, terrible news. I am so sorry. I feel for your mother. I can imagine how upset and worried she is.
Help her. Children make all the difference at times like this.
Thank you for your kind wishes for my husband and for me.
Thanks @topcomment for your support of my engagement. I appreciate it.
When you’ve been following a routine for a long time, it’s hard to break out of it. I used to be very active here on Hive, so not posting, reading, or commenting has made me feel really bad—as if something were missing—so I completely understand how you feel. I’m so sorry to hear what happened to your husband. Anything related to the health of our loved ones has a profound impact on our lives. I hope he recovers soon and that this distress passes quickly.
I see now that your husband is an active reader on Hive, so he has a great way to take his mind off things by reading the posts here; that’s wonderful. My best wishes to both of you, and I hope you both stay healthy. Hugs, @agmoore.
In a way, all of us who are part of Hive are like close neighbors, and what happens to others can even concern us.
A big hug to everyone!
Hello my friend, @abneagro.
He's sitting in his 'office' watching some sort of sporting event. It's hard to believe that it was only last Saturday that he got out of the ICU. We have since consulted a cardio-oncologist who is a member of his care team. He suggested we return in 3 months, so I guess he plans for us to be around for at least another 3 months :))
It's a wake-up call. Life is precious and short.
I hope you and your family are well. Crazy times.
Warm regards, AG
