She Promised

She promised that we would be together, but I didn’t believe her. I had no idea who this woman was, and I didn’t know how to find her, either. I was at a loss. I thought I had found the woman I loved, but she was gone, and all I could do was wait.
She promised me that I would never lose her again. She said that she would always be with me. But I didn’t even know where she lived. I had no way of contacting her. And she kept her promises.
When she left, all I had was her promise. And I kept it. I never stopped loving her.

"I wanted to be with you, but I didn't know how. I didn't want to hurt you."
It was hard to speak. She knew what he was thinking. He had been hurt. He loved her, yet he couldn't trust her. Then he realized he was being selfish. "I know," he whispered.
She ran her fingers through his hair. "We'll be together now, and we can start over. Our lives will never be the same again. But we'll start over."
