Let's Get to Know @elmerlin and the Growing World of LIKETU !

Long before Hive Thrive existed, @shadowspub and I welcomed @elmerlin onto our previous live social audio show, HiveSpace, which was broadcast on Twitter/X. At the time, @liketu was a stylish photo-sharing project that some on the chain were calling Hive's answer to Instagram. Fast forward a few years and we're excited to welcome him back, not just because @liketu has been completely redesigned, but because it has quietly grown into it's own ecosytem, ripe with features, perfect for creating meaningful content on the fly.

If you've spent any time on Hive, chances are you've seen @elmerlin around. He's known as a crypto evangelist and investor who rocks out the Hive rankings as one of the 30 top Hive Power holders, all while remaining one of its most active builders. While many projects launch with fanfare and then fade away, @elmerlin has spent years steadily expanding, refining, and reimagining what a mobile-first social experience on Hive could look like.

Alongside @liketu's familiar social sharing features such as Moments and Stories, there are other new features like Shape, Speak, and Wild.🐦 Some help people create. Some help people communicate. Some help people explore and document the world around them. Wild, my fave new feature, reminds me of the Merlin Bird ID app that I discovered on my recent trip to Scotland. Similar in some ways to Merlin Bird, Wild encourages users to discover and share nature in a way that feels both educational and fun.

In doing the work to get ready for our guests, I practice describing Hive projects. So here's my elevator pitch for LikeTu: It's a mobile-first Hive platform that feels a bit like Instagram, a bit like Snapchat, a bit like Canva, and a bit like Merlin Bird. It's got the creative app ecosystem you'd expect from a startup with a much larger team. It is driven by one Hivian's vision of making Web3 feel less intimidating and more human. Rather than simply asking people to join the blockchain, @elmerlin is focused on giving them fun reasons to sign up and irresistible reasons to stay.

For @shadowspub and me, this episode feels a bit like a reunion. We first met @elmerlin when @liketu was still in its early iterations. Now we're catching up a few years later to explore how the project has evolved, what inspired the redesign, what all these new tools actually do, and where he sees the future of @liketu and Hive heading next.
