That I May Know Him

No other story in scripture has more twists and turns than that of the life of Paul. A journey that begins with a man named Saul who, through a traumatic series of events is led to acknowledge that Jesus is the Lord of Heaven.

During the vision on the road to Damascus Saul, loses his sight and is left blind for quite some time, until a devout man named Ananias, is called by God to restore his eye sight. After healing Saul’s eyesight, Ananias states four amazing steps in which this newly converted man would follow. It is these four steps that that over the next few editions we will endeavour to not only understand, but to implement in our own lives.

“And he [Ananias] said, The God of our fathers hath chosen thee, that thou shouldest know his will, and see that Just One, and shouldest hear the voice of his mouth. For thou shalt be his witness unto all men of what thou hast seen and heard”
Acts 22:14-15

God’s four steps:
■ To know His Will
■ To see that Just One
■ To hear the voice of His mouth
■ To be a witness of what has been seen and heard.

What’s the Goal?
The final step in this ‘four step’ plan is to be a “witness of what we have seen and heard.”
God wants us to share with others what we ourselves have a) “seen” this is based on step two, and b) what we have heard, based on step three. It’s obvious that God wants more people to know of Him, and it would seem that His chosen method for this is “word-of-mouth- advertising”. God want’s people, who themselves know Him to share with others and to persuade them
also to “taste and see”.

So where do we start?
As we have seen the conclusion is found in step four. And this is where many of us want to start, we want to ‘witness’ for God. However, we have to realize that step four cannot be accomplished until step three and two have been experienced. After all, how can someone witness of what they have heard and seen if they have yet to hear and see for themselves? The simple answer is - they can’t!

So then, it becomes apparent that the first step in this journey must begin with “to know His will” What is the will of God? – as complex and as difficult as this question might seem, the Bible contains the answer.

For this is the will of God, even your sanctification...” - 1 Thessalonians 4:3
The first step for us is to know God’s will. And according to the Bible, God’s will is that we are to be sanctified.

We have learnt that there are four steps we need to follow if we are to be witnesses of what we have heard and seen. But all of this begins with knowing God’s will, which is to be sanctified.
