My Awakening Experience

In the summer of 2013, I hit rock bottom. My 8 years old relationship with my girlfriend back then was facing its final days. We broke up on good terms after a few months of “break up” drama, but I was still suffering, having serious problems accepting it.

But that’s just one thing – I was very dissatisfied with my job, so I quit…I began to drink a lot, to gamble a lot (my ex-girlfriends money too), I had no money and I started to hang out with people who were somehow like me. We all know how the universe works, you attract what you are.

I was just drinking, getting high (sometimes both) and feeling horrible the next day. I spent so many Sundays sleeping, without seeing the Sun, and I thought that’s the way supposed to be. That’s life, right!?

On the same year, on October 8th, I finally realized I had enough, it was time to do something positive for myself, so I decided to quit smoking. I was a heavy smoker for 17 years since I was 9 years old. The book from Allan Carr “Easy Way to Stop Smoking” (which I recommend) always caught my attention and since I wanted to read something, I thought…what the hell, I am going to read this book now.

WHAT TRIGGERED THE AWAKENING

As I was reading, a particular sentence instantly captured my attention. The sentence goes something like: “You are more powerful than a drug, how come you let yourself controlled by it”. I don’t remember right now if those are the exact words in the book, but the meaning is the same. Right after I read and really understood the meaning of that sentence, I began to experience something amazing inside me, something I never felt before in my life.

I laid back on my desk chair and an extraordinary feeling of knowing, peace, joy, love, and freedom (all combined), a feeling that warmed up my entire body, started to “embrace” all of my problems, fears, insecurities, and pain.

Suddenly I got it, I knew. I knew who I am, who we are as beings, I knew how powerful our minds are, how our thoughts are responsible for all what happens in our lives. I felt how everything is connected, human, animal and nature. It was like I remembered something I forgot, something that all of us have inside and everyone should be aware of.

Many describe this as the “oneness feeling”, that all in existence is interconnected. I don’t know if what I felt fits that definition but what I do know is that I felt limitless, without boundaries, connected with all that is. All I wanted was to reach and explain this to as many people as possible.

HOW I FELT AFTER

From 2013 until now, I changed a lot. I started to love myself every day more and more. That kind of love that you feel for someone when you fall in love with…that kind of love I felt for myself and for all that is. And I learned that we cannot love others until we love ourselves, because we don’t know how.

I finally felt free and wanted to live on my own terms and rules as much as possible, even though our society is constantly trying to tell us who we are and who we should be, I also had some struggle because of it 😛 . I realized that we are all in the same boat, trying to figure out what this life is all about, following rules, some of them made to confuse us, to make us stay disconnected from what’s really important.

I developed a strong compassion for every being, human or animal so I adopted a vegan lifestyle (here’s the story on how I became a vegan). I had a craving for knowledge, so I started to research like crazy about different topics and things I knew nothing about in the past. Every day was different, with new stuff to learn about. Life became a journey, I felt like I was reborn for the second time.

I managed to quit smoking, drinking, gambling, and I drastically reduced the intake of chemicals in food or drinks, and other societal habits like ingesting pills for every small pain I felt. I was beginning to live a lot healthier.

At the time I write this words, I am eating a gluten-free and mostly raw vegan diet. I have not taken any conventional medication for more than two years and I feel healthier than ever before. I can’t even call it a diet, it is simply a lifestyle.

Another import thing that I learned from this experience is knowing how much I don’t know. That I will continuously learn and grow, because I believe that’s what life is all about….learning, growing and becoming our greatest version, having fun while we’re at it and inspire and help others too when possible.

I’m interested in hearing about your awakening experiences in the comments bellow.
