The Truth About Paganisim
Say the word 'pagan' and thoughts of 'something bad' rise in the minds of most people. Why? What is paganism anyway?
Due to the fact gods and mythologies differ depending on the region, I will stay with the common beliefs shared by all pagans. Put simply, paganism is the reverence of nature. All pagan faiths strive to bring, and maintain, a balance between the human, the elements, and the spirits. The god head is seen as a divine being, balanced in both masculine and feminine qualities. This is why God is often represented by two candles, one gold (male) and one silver (female).
Magic is a very important element of paganism. The true meaning of the word, however, has been warped over time. When most people hear the word 'magic' they either think of an illusionist or a character from a children's book. When pagans say 'magic' they are refering to the interaction between a human and a spirit. Magic is neither good nor evil. The intentions behind the magic is what makes it white or black. White magic refers to the interaction between a good human and a pure spirit. Black magic refers to the interaction between a selfish human and a demon. (It's important to note here that 'evil' and 'selfish' are the same, and the two words can be interchanged for one another.)
Another term that has been misused is 'spell'. A spell is a prayer layed out on a table. The goal is that the human's spirit guide (guardian angel) will see it and better understand the request. The display itself does not cause anything to happen, the spirit the human is working with does. It is believed spirit guides are matched to their humans based on personality and element preferences. So if a human has a special connection to the sea, that person's spirit guide will also share a love for water. In this case, the person should use the element of water in their spells since that is something they and their guide both have in common and understand. The closer the relationship, and better the communication, between the human and the spirit, the stronger their magic will be.
Spells enable a human to communicate something they might not have words for. If someone you love has fallen very ill, you may not be able to say a prayer out loud (air magic). The pagan may remedy this problem by lighting a green candle with the sick person's name written into the wax (fire magic). Since green is the color of the leaves in the spring, the color is associated with rebirth and healing. Having the name written into the wax tells the guide who the prayer (spell) is for. Having multiple ways to pray is comforting to pagans as it allows the lines of communication to remain open and nothing is assumed.
A witch is a human who practices magic (a witch's craft) and refers to both female and male. A wizard is a witch who has a natural ablity to understand the spirit realm. Wizards are born, not made, and tend to possess an intuitive knowledge of math and science. Their spells reflect this higher learning and tend to be more powerful since the wizard understands how the prayer can be answered. The strongest of the witches is the sorcerer. Sorcerers are extremely rare and have shown a mastery over their element.
Looking through pagan eyes, certain biblical figures would be considered sorcerers. Moses' relationship with God was very close, and their communication was clear to both of them. When the Israelites needed to escape from Egypt, Moses thrusted out his staff and the Red Sea parted. Then a stiff wind came to dry out the sea bed. This shows Moses' spirit guide to be very powerful and possess a mastery over the elements of water and air. This also shows Moses to be a very pure soul, as he was able to establish and maintain a relationship that close with God. This is a perfect example of what comes to a pagan's mind when they here the term 'sorcerer'.
So why the bad reputation? Most of the modern views on paganism stem from Dark Age Europe, particularly England. Before Christianity reached pagan Europe, kings and tribal leaders often had their own magicians to help them lead the way they believed their gods wanted them to. Even King Arthur is said to have had his own wizard. However, when the churches were built, that all changed. In an effort to fill all the new churches, pagan holidays were 'christianized'. When this failed, pagan beliefs were then declared works of the devil. Words like 'pharmakeia' (a term for a mind altering substance) were changed to 'sorcery' and 'witchcraft' to make it appear like the bible condemned the pagan way of life.
Fortunately, a new generation is beginning to learn of the deception. More and more youth are finding their pagan roots and are connecting to their angelic guardians. It is important to educate this new generation of the differces between white and black magic, what the spirits are, and where they come from.

This is really interesting and sheds some light on this foreign topic for me. Growing up with a strict Christian background, all of that was deemed "evil." I can see now where the lines have been blurred a bit more and a lot of it makes more sense. Thanks for sharing!
Interesting and at least partially true, though I would say superstition has played a role here as well. I grew up with an interest in these things, and studied the nature of them, if not the practice.
Magic, especially when viewing the variegated pagan perspectives of it, is a multifaceted word with many applicable definitions. In essence, it generally can be described as a science or an interpretation of a science that is not even close to being fully understood. Alien technology, interaction with beings on other phases, the intricacies of cause and effect, attempting to cheat or break the natural structure of existence... all of these could be called magic, if a more accurate description of them is not readily available.
In many cases, especially within pagan factions (as there are many) truth is mixed with superstition to generate a pseudoscientific placebo. Many have no applied notion of an entity, whether trustworthy or not, helping in whatever goal they aim for. Some believe it is the inherent power of the user or their powerless materials that accomplishes tasks.
I'll be the first to say we can do far more with the spiritual and biological faculties at our disposal. What one might call a superpower is just a honed skill set to another, a skill set that can be fully understood within the laws of nature if those laws themselves are sufficiently understood.
Still, there is good reason for any student of Christ's teachings to be wary of "magical" matters, and to take a very pragmatic stance towards them for a number of reasons from scripture and from logic.
I am sorry I cannot agree with this, Moses did not have "help" from spirits. Moses has help from God and the Lord. The waters did not "magically" part. That is not what the scripture says at all... it says he raised his staff and a strong wind blew all night and the waters receded. The WIND pushed the waters back. Spirits did not help him, this is not accurate at all.

In today's world, "cultural relativism" (the view that all beliefs and practices must be accepted as equal) has placed witchcraft and voodoo on the same level as Judaism, Christianity and Islam, and in the western world, once the bastion of Christianity, witchcraft is quickly replacing it.
For both Christians and Jews, the Bible makes it very clear that witchcraft and its associated practices (necromancy, mediumship, divination, etc.) are strictly forbidden, and that both the practitioners and followers are liable to be condemned, killed, or cut off (Leviticus 20:6/Leviticus 20:27/Deuteronomy 18:10/Leviticus 19:31/Exodus 22:18), so there is no gray area or ambiguity when it comes to this subject.
This should not be confused with simple paganism, which over the ages has been the religion of the uneducated, who errantly worship the creation instead of The Creator... Ignorance is not the same as evil, though the former usually leads to the latter.
Witchcraft, by comparison, is the attempt to circumvent the will of God, with one's own personal will and desire, by tapping into divine power, to control and manipulate God's creation... It can best be exemplified by the difference between "prayer" and "incantation"...
PRAYER: One's humble supplication to God, asking him for a favor, if it is his will.
INCANTATION: The use of "magic" through spells or the manipulation of spirits, to force an event to happen, regardless of God's will, using one's own power for one's own purposes.
As you can see, the difference is not subtle... Prayer places one in willing subjugation to God, while incantation is used to magically supplement and circumvent God, which can never be "good", which is why THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS "WHITE MAGIC" (good magic)!!!
Witchcraft has always been a tool of Satan, to expose ego driven people who would not willingly subjugate themselves to God, and through the ages, Satan has continuously re-packaged and re-branded witchcraft, to always keep it attractive to the self-serving of each generation, with its most recent incarnation being "Wicca", the modern trendy's socially acceptable version of witchcraft.
To fully understand why witchcraft has remained popular through the ages, you must first understand who it draws in, and why it draws them it...
Witchcraft has always been a religious form of "penis envy", practiced most by covetous women (practically the official religion of feminism) and effeminate men, who feel subjugated by powerful men in their society, and seek to overthrow their power through the use of magic... Not through education, invention or industrious hard work... Just sociopathic, self-serving, spiritual manipulation... And because these powerless people have always chosen to "blame the patriarchy" instead of their own lack of principled fortitude, they ultimately include God on their list of patriarchal suppressors, and thus willingly disobey his very clear biblical condemnation of their practices.
Now you would think that after all of this time, these people would notice that the wealthy and powerful countries (and individuals) of the world, are primarily Christian and Jewish (God takes care of His own), while the ones that are powerless and penniless, are the pagans and polytheists, who worship statues, dance around bonfires yelling incantations into the air, praying that somebody will pick them up out of the dirt and declare them a deity... And more times than not, they die in their ignorance and opposition to God.
So as anyone can see, "magic is masturbation"... It's self-indulgence and self-abuse, but it is not a real relationship with anything but one's own ego.
Nobody gains anything through witchcraft, and nobody is cursed by the spells of a witch... It only has power over people who are more simple-minded than the practitioner, and are gullible enough to believe the spell is real... But the practitioner too is incredibly gullible; gullible enough to believe that he/she can bribe spirits into doing his/her bidding, by burning candles and putting out gifts a ghost can't even use (facepalm)... And Satan plays them like a fiddle.
And as the Bible warned, this is a wicked generation, arguably the most wicked, egocentric and self-serving generation ever... So of course, they are fully embracing witchcraft, and fully rejecting God. 😔
