The Rule

As he forces me in the corner,
I start getting small.
Because that is what I do
with my back against a wall.

As my body contemplates
whether to run or fight,
my mind is moving swiftly,
strengthening my fright.

My body decides to fight and
fright turns into anger.
I blurted without thinking,
"Your life is now in danger!".

I felt myself get stronger,
as anger made me grow.
But, something became apparent...
something I didn't know.

My enemy started smiling
just before I attack.
My anger just dissipated
and I was taken aback.

It was just a great mistake.
He cleared that up for me.
Now, I think I understand.
No one's out for me, you see?

There are exceptions to that rule,
which prove that it is true.
And, being mindful of this rule
will end up helping you!
