It was as though the breeze washed away her problems as she ran through the woods. It was satisfying and peaceful, she could barely feel her legs. She pushed the pace trying to outrun last night’s memory, the betrayal, the lies but the thoughts kept crowding her mind.

She tripped and fell hard on her arm.
“Are you okay?” asked a stranger as he reached to help her up.

“Not really. My arm hurts.” She replied as she looked at her strained left limb.

“That doesn’t look good. Let’s get you to a hospital.” The stranger said.

“No.” She scrambled to her feet, wincing. “I just need to get home. It’ll swell, that’s the worst that can happen. With painkillers and a little home treatment, I’ll live.”

She mumbled curses as she walked back home.
“Luck seems to have something against me. Why do bad things happen all at once? Can’t I get a break from one before the other pokes it big head into my life?

Any other person would me be in a mental hospital afer what happened last night. She couldn’t believe she was still sane. She was beginning to understand why people turned evil. It felt impossible to be good and kind in a world ready to pluck your head off at the slightest opportunity.

She stopped, jaw tightening. “I have to think of a way to get back at them. They need to pay for everything they’ve done to me and my family. This time, law and justice are going to have to take the back seat.”
