Learning New Words

Sometimes, learning a new word, its meaning and correct usage can be as frustrating as learning to walk. Often times, we even forget new words right after looking them up. However, there are some tips that can be helpful in learning new words effectively, viz:

• Endeavour to look up foreign words you come across in a lexicon.
• Ponder for some time on those words you find hard to grasp. If your efforts prove abortive, then leave it, but note it down for later. Most times, the difficult ones do not leave you once grasped.
• When you come across a word you previously looked up but have forgotten, look it up again to refresh your memory. Remember, constancy and determination yields positive results.
• Be vigilant, to know how words new to you are used by others. Sometimes, this is the breakthrough you need to learn hard-to-grasp new words.
