yesterday's snow

yesterday's snow is already almost water,
the tortoises are moving towards the end,
and we all drink exhausted water
from falling snowflakes, from ice,
from clouds sagging to the ground,
on faces tipped over to the light,
and trembling comets fall
and drown cities and ships
