Inukshuk
"Inukshuk" Origanal watercolour painting, 11"x15", July 2017.
Since it was recently Canada's 150th birthday, I wanted to paint something that represents a part of Canada that often gets forgotten: the Great North and the first Peoples who called this land home long before it was named Canada.
An Inukshuk (or Inuksuk) is a stone structure traditionally made by the Inuit people of Canada, Alaska, and Greenland. It was/is used as a land mark for navigation/travel and for hunting.
I started off with the sky, then the first layer of the Inukshuk, and then I proceeded to paint the ground. The rule with watercolours is to paint from the top down and from the background forward... but rules can always be broken :)
Should I continue to include the work in progress photos in my art posts or just have the finished painting? Please let me know.

I love 'stacked rocks' and so it's wonderful to see your delightful painting of them. Didn't realize the Inuit used them as markers.

Yes, I haven't been active on Steemit for awhile... I guess you could say that I got discouraged - but I plan to get into the habit of posting more frequently.

I joined Steemit over a year ago, and after a very short time left for other pastures. At the time I was exploring several image sharing sites and particularly loved the creative communities at Tumblr and Instagram.
It was suggestioned from two different people that I relook at Steemit. That was a few months ago now ~ And I often wonder what I would be like if I hadn't taken that leave of about 8 months.
It's so easy to become disheartened if you are gauging your worth by upvotes ~ But there is so much more value in the interactions you can have. And for me the editor is fabulous. Become familiar with 'Markdown' and you will enjoy the process of sharing your work even more so. 🦋
