ELECTROMOTIVE FORCE
The maximum potential difference that exists between the terminals of a cell which is disconnected from the external circuit is called electromotive force. When there is no current in the circuit, that means, the circuit remains open then the potential difference between the two ends of a cell is equal to its electromotive force.
