Civil War Secrets

Hidden secrets in Missouri come in many shapes and sizes. Including this covered bridge which is now only one of four still standing. One in four! Let that sink it. This used to be a milling site where they milled flour and rice during the civil war era. I have always found it a peaceful place to visit and clear my mind. Especially when there are so many things going on in the world. Listening to the water run is relaxing.

For you history buffs, this covered bridge began construction in 1858 and was postponed due to the civil war. The bridge was not completed until 1868 and has stood proud over the Whitewater River since. I cannot tell you why they call it whitewater when it does not matter what time of year you visit the water is never clear.

One would never know this beauty existed if someone did not tell them. It's directly off the highway but miles from town. You could drive right past it every day and never know it was there.

I love finding hidden treasures like this and photographing it. Actually, I went for the photos yesterday only to be able to paint this in the future. This is just one hidden secret in Missouri I wonder what else she holds.
