Don’t Click the Link

I was relaxing at home after working at the farm when a notification popped into my phone. A message popped up on his screen.

“Congratulations! You have won a brand-new phone and ₦500,000. Click the link below to claim your prize.”

My heart raced with excitement. I had never won anything before online. The message looked real because it even carried the logo of a popular MTN company. Without thinking much, i was about to click the link when my younger sister walked into the room.

“What are you doing?” she asked.

I showed her the message proudly. Instead of smiling, she frowned.

“That is a scam link,” she warned me. “Scammers use fake messages to steal people’s money and personal information.”

I was shocked. The message looked so convincing that i almost believed it completely. My sister explained that scammers often promise free gifts, money, or urgent rewards just to trick people into clicking dangerous links.

To be sure, i searched online and discovered many people had complained about the same message from MTN. Some victims had lost access to their bank accounts after clicking the link.

Feeling relieved, i quickly deleted the message and blocked the sender. From that day on, i became more careful online. I also warned my friends never to trust suspicious links from claiming to be from MTN sources.

I learned an important lesson: if something online looks too good to be true, it probably a scam.
