Crypto currency

I'm curious to know what most people think about cryptocurrency. I know bitcoin blew up in value but is this something that might be temporary? I feel like the hype is what boosted the value but will eventually drop down really low.

Also curious about laws with it. Is it legal to turn bitcoin worth lots of money into USD? Does it have to be claimed as income and pay taxes?
