Cuando escribes por vocación y tu vida ha estado vinculada a la escritura, ver tu primer libro publicado es una emoción muy grande. Porque aunque hayas leído tus textos en público, verlos impresos en un libro es diferente. Un libro es algo que perdura en el tiempo. Recuerdo que pasaron más de treinta años desde que escribí mis primeros poemas y los vi convertidos en un libro. Porque el primer libro que escribí “Música de fondo”, el cual revisé y corregí con mi profesora, la gran poeta venezolana Hanni Ossott, no fue el primero que publiqué, fue rechazado por varias editoriales y lo publicó finalmente un joven editor de Maracaibo. Pero recuerdo cuando vi mi primer libro publicado “Matarilerilerón”, una plaquette de poemas para niños, que editó una amiga poeta, Belkys Arredondo. Tuve la suerte de presentarlo en una gran feria de libros que se hacía en Caracas, junto con otros amigos que también publicaban su primer libro. Todos compartimos esa misma emoción de ver nuestro primer libro publicado. Estábamos juntos en un grupo literario que se llamó “Tokonoma”.

Conocí a Andrés López Barbero cuando inicié mi Taller de Escritura “Voces de la bahía” en La Herradura. Desde que llevó su primer ejercicio, a partir de un títere que les mostré a los participantes, supe que era un escritor de vocación, que ya venía escribiendo. El texto que nos leyó tenía claridad, estaba bien estructurado, y aunque era prosa, tenía imágenes poéticas. Con el paso de los meses pude escucharlo en varios eventos poéticos en La Herradura y en Almuñécar. No sólo escribe buenos textos poéticos sino que también los lee maravillosamente, su manera de darles entonación es estupenda. Los rapea. La mayoría de los poetas que conozco, aunque grandes poetas, no saben leer sus textos, los leen de una manera monótona, aburrida. Pero Andrés no había publicado un libro. Se desempeñaba como presidente del AMPA Bahía de La Herradura del CEIP Las gaviotas, donde promueve la lectura, la escritura y la poesía.

Antes de la presentación de su primer libro, “Viaje entre prosa y versos: La eterna búsqueda”, tuve la oportunidad de comprarle un ejemplar. Andrés llevó algunos ejemplares al Taller de Escritura Creativa “Voces de la bahía”, que dirijo en la actualidad, del cual él forma parte. Un libro bellamente ilustrado por María Romero Barbero y diseñado por la editorial Diversidad Literaria. Ya entonces imaginé que la presentación iba a ser una fiesta, como efectivamente lo fue.

El día de la presentación estuve entre las primeras personas en llegar a La Cochera, el local donde se presentó el libro. Andrés caminaba nervioso cerca de la puerta. Le di un abrazo para darle ánimo. Como está dicho al inicio de estas líneas, cuando presentas tu primer libro sientes una gran emoción, pero en realidad son varias, a la alegría la acompañan el temor de que todo quede bien, de no ponerte nervioso y hacer el tonto. En poco tiempo el local se fue llenando de amigos y conocidos de Andrés.

La música fue la primera expresión que rompió el hielo, que inició el evento. Se escucharon notas de jazz, varios amigos músicos de Andrés lo acompañaron: el pianista Paco Cruz, el baterista Itay, el guitarrista Brian. Luego a lo largo de la noche se fueron incorporando otros amigos.

Inicialmente, conversó Nerea Aguilar, que apoyó a Andrés en el proceso de corrección y producción del libro. Cuando un libro llega a nuestras manos no imaginamos que antes ha necesitado pasar por las manos de diversos profesionales. Luego subió al escenario la cantante Olga Santuario y cantó “Llorona”, para dar paso después a la joven ilustradora María Romero Barbero, quien conversó con el público sobre el proceso de ilustración del libro de Andrés. Cuando un libro es ilustrado, no todos lo son, tiene que haber una sinergia entre los textos que lo componen y las imágenes. En el caso del libro de Andrés, no era un solo género, había textos en prosa y textos poéticos, pero María logró que hubiese un estupendo diálogo entre los textos de Andrés y las imágenes que lo ilustraron, de colores llamativos en la portada y bonitas imágenes en blanco y negro en el interior del libro.

Luego Andrés leyó algunos de los textos del libro presentado, el cual está conformado por tres partes: 1.-Partida, 2.-Un nuevo destino y 3.- El final de los tiempos oscuros. El itinerario que sigue el personaje que protagoniza “Viaje entre prosa y versos: la eterna búsqueda”, además de ser un desplazamiento físico, deja su ciudad para ampliar sus horizontes, es sobre todo, como nos dice en uno de los versos iniciales, “un viaje a mis adentros”, un viaje de transformación interior; pero así también una búsqueda estética, a través del decir poético (“hablemos en verso”… “buscando la rima perfecta/en versos que nacen del corazón”).

Pero esa búsqueda quiere interlocutores, no es hermética ni rebuscada, el autor en todo momento interpela al lector, busca dialogar con él, que tenga una participación activa en esa búsqueda que propone, sin que haya ningún tipo de discriminación (“disfrutemos de lo que nos une/en estas páginas que huelen a sueños”… “Dejemos a un lado el odio y el temor/ a personas diferentes a nosotros”), pero también defiende su propia identidad (“Yo soy lo que soy/no lo que tus miradas quieren ver”). Esta frase la repitió en uno de las musicalizaciones en forma de rap que hizo de sus poemas.

El final de la presentación fue algo verdaderamente apoteósico, en el que los presentes vimos la participación del cantaor Pablo Escudero, quien musicalizó uno de los poemas del libro, pero también se unieron los músicos Paco Cruz, el pianista, el baterista Itay, el guitarrista Brian, la cantante Olga Santurio y la bailaora Geno Rodríguez.

Tengo más de treinta años asistiendo a presentaciones de libros, a eventos poéticos y musicales y nunca había visto un jolgorio como el de la presentación del primer libro de Andrés López Barbero, con tanto cariño, porque todos o casi todos son amigos de Andrés, salvo el baterista, que tuvo que sustituir a un amigo que no pudo llegar, pero también participó con el mismo espíritu de alegría y celebración.

Cuando Andrés preguntó si alguien quería hacer un comentario tomé el micrófono sólo para felicitarlo por ese primer libro publicado, por el inicio de un camino que apenas empieza. Andrés me había agradecido públicamente mi presencia en el evento. Qué bonita experiencia, que alegría haber podido estar allí, poderlo acompañar.

But this quest calls for dialogue; it is neither obscure nor contrived. The author constantly engages the reader, seeking to converse with them and encourage their active participation in the journey he proposes, without any form of discrimination (“let’s enjoy what unites us/in these pages that smell of dreams”… “Let’s set aside hatred and fear/of people different from us”), but he also defends his own identity (“I am what I am/not what your eyes want to see”). He repeated this line in one of the rap versions he made of his poems.

The finale of the presentation was truly spectacular, featuring a performance by the flamenco singer Pablo Escudero, who set one of the book’s poems to music, joined by pianist Paco Cruz, drummer Itay, guitarist Brian, singer Olga Santurio, and dancer Geno Rodríguez.

I’ve been attending book presentations, poetry and music events for over thirty years, and I’d never seen a celebration quite like the one at the launch of Andrés López Barbero’s first book—it was so full of warmth, because everyone, or almost everyone, is a friend of Andrés’s, except for the drummer, who had to fill in for a friend who couldn’t make it, but who also participated with the same spirit of joy and celebration.
