Whats up my fellow Steemians?

Apparently if you're American & you practice yoga, you are contributing to white supremacy...Well that's what this professor is claiming at least.


In an article called "Yoga and the Roots of Culture Appropriation" a Michigan State professor claims that there is a "yoga industrial complex" that needs to be addressed.

She wrote "Yoga practice in the US is linked to white supremacy and that it is tied up with colonialism." Shreena Gandhi is a professor in Religious Studies also the co-author of this article where she states that "Indian woman is who this practice belongs to." So basically she believes that white people in the west are damning the eastern culture by practicing yoga for health and wellness and staying ignorant to the eastern spiritual beliefs/religion... https://organicfit.tv/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/istock-499609170.jpg

My thoughts on this?

Total and complete bullsh*t.. I say that because basically just because people use it for fitness and not practicing the religion behind it, doesn't mean they disrespect where it came from. If anything this lady should be educating people on the practices rather than damning them for doing it incorrectly. Yoga is extremely beneficial to your health and wellness, so to basically persecute someone because you are either ignorant to their beliefs or do not practice the same beliefs is crazy in my opinion.. Yoga should be something shared worldwide because of the vast benefits it offers and the people who practice regularly should not be demonized for wanting to better themselves . http://www.joyyogacenter.com/assets/mem.jpg
