Music changing gears.

I went to a concert today. It was a bad day for me, but going to the benefit concert in favor of Lily's former school was a good idea. Being around the other parents. Listening to the music. Pataconfunk brought up many memories, as they always do. The band founder is my host-brother, and his kid will be in the school starting this year. I've been in Jamsessions with them and now many of the themes by heart, and I think I had shared them here, too. But what I enjoyed even more was Mama Vudú.

They've just had there 33 year anniversary. That means that the session above was recorded 13 years ago, when the band existed for 20 years already. I was 4 years old when the started. They look so much different today, obviously. The bass player is a farmer now, our flour supplier and him and his wife are bakers par excellence. The only ones that I'd recommend beside ourselves.

It was good to hug them all again. The parents. The friends. The musicians, who I mostly knew. The music helped, too. Although it felt like a very wrong setting. The music seems more for a dark underground club, with sticky floors and everything reeking of beer, cigarettes, sweat and the distinguished note of vomit.

It really was a bad day. I didn't get anything done. Not in the good way, where I decide not to. Just got sucked into it. Maybe the last week was just too much. I just wasn't able to get myself out of the pleasure in numbness. Playing games, watching movies, cooking, but not getting anything done, really. Tomorrow, maybe. The music changed my gears. I feel so much better now. Again, it always happens. I should go to concerts more often.
