The historic capital of the kingdom of Mewar, Udaipur is now a small (500k people) but beautiful and picturesque city in Rajasthan. It was founded in mid 16th century by Maharana Udai Singh when he escaped from the Mughals King Akbar, abandoning his previous capital city of Chittorgarh. It remained as the capital city till 1818 when it became a British princely state.

India has some of the most Amazing hotels in the world. This was the cheaper version of the Oberoi and it's pretty nice. In Udaipur you have maybe the best hotels in any of these cities: Jagmandir (a private island, ex King pleasure island), City Palace Hotel where they filmed a James Bond, the Palace itself hosts an hotel, the Oberoi Udaivillas which is amazing (we were sharing the park with them and we could catch glimpses of the place)

The lake in the morning is very nice, you can see people bathing, fishing and making their laundry.

A Temple in the sun.

This is the palace in the city, it's an imposing fort overlooking the lake. Around one third is still used a private residence for the Maharaja, while one third is a very big and nice museum and the rest is an hotel.

Eklinji Temple, a small temple outside of the city which is strongly advised for a quick stop by on the way to the next city.
