Our little Sins...
Some argue that it has the potential to generate significant revenue through taxation and can also be used for medical purposes. Others argue that it can lead to an increase in drug abuse and crime. Despite this, an increasing number of countries and states have legalized marijuana for recreational use, while others have legalized it for medicinal purposes. The legalisation of marijuana continues to be a hotly debated topic, with proponents and opponents presenting valid arguments on both sides.

There's zero evidence for the above. In fact, there's probably evidence to the contrary. The Netherlands have had it legal for a long time and there's no difference in drug use between that country and, say, the UK. Also, there are just as many people smoking weed in the UK regardless of legal status.
By the way, I don't smoke and I hate the smell of weed, but objectively it's less harmful than alcohol for instance, and who will ever consider banning that in a non-Islamic country? It can even be argued that it's less harmful than plain old cigarettes. There really isn't any sound argument against it's illegality, considering all the other much more harmful stuff we're allowed to consume; sugar (high fructose corn syrup), Fluoride, mercury, etc.
Absulutely opaque topic, probably for the very same reason weed is not prosecuted as bad as other substances. On most part i think it's just money on lobby.
I could also add that as a smoker of regular cigarettes, i'd be more than glad that it was made illegal. Maybe i could quit then more easily, as for now i constantly relapse.

I stopped smoking cigarettes almost 5 years ago now, and only smoke CBD and weed, which helps a lot. I am also a sport addict, so it helps me get in the zone when I do calisthenics, jumping rope, or shadowboxing!
It's not legalized in France yet, but when living in Spain for 3 months in September, the cannabis clubs were a godsend for me, as there is no way I can spend too much time without THC and helped not having to hunt for something to smoke around Spain.
I can do without alcohol or any other drugs, but weed has a really important place in my life. For my wife too, she comes from a Sotho culture (South Africa), and the herb has been grown by people in Botswana for hundreds of years, considered medicine. So no stigma in some countries, while others just love to talk about things...
