From the crib coos a toothless babe
Beaming priceless smiles
As peeking rays spot its eyes
Laughter finds a friend

Like balsam on our sorrows
Worries mellow at its cackle
And the heart leaps
Almost skipping a beat

Just mimes
Yet a thousand words
So much said with drops of saliva
And wiggle of toes

Gone the rays be
Mute its voice becomes
The morning returns them both
As the rays peek afresh
