The Fountain of Good Fortune [Book Review] ESP7ENG
On the longest day of the year, people—wizards, witches, and Muggles alike—gather before a barrier concealing a forest and a magical fountain; this fountain grants a wish to anyone who bathes in its waters. Through a twist of fate, three witches and a Muggle manage to cross the barrier. Asha suffers from an incurable illness and the fountain is her last hope; Altheda has been stripped of her home and wand; Amata was abandoned by the man she loved most; and the Muggle simply wanted to be brave and renowned—though upon realizing his rivals were witches, he feared he stood no chance of reaching the fountain, the women convinced him otherwise. Together, they had to overcome three trials: the first involved a giant worm that blocked their path, demanding a token of pain—a requirement satisfied by Asha’s tears; the second involved an inscription on the ground demanding a token of weariness—met this time by the sweat from Sir Misfortune’s (the knight’s) brow, allowing them to press on; and finally, a stream demanded a treasure from the past, prompting Amata to surrender her painful memories—those concerning the man who had abandoned her.
El día más largo del año, todas las personas, magos, brujas y muggles se reunen frente a una cerca que oculta un bosque y una fuente mágica, esta fuente concederá un deseo a la persona que se bañe en sus aguas, por azares del destino tres brujas y un muggle lograr pasar la cerca. Asha sufre una enfermedad incurable y la fuente es su última esperanza, a Altheda le quitaron su hogar y su varita y Amata fue abandonada por el hombre que más amaba mientras que el muggle solo quería ser valiente y recocido, sin embargo al percatarse de que sus rivales eran brujas pensó que no tendría oportunidad de alcanzar la fuente pero las mujeres lo convencieron. Juntos debían superar tres pruebas, la primera fue un gusano gigante que les cerró el paso exigiendo una prueba de dolor, así que las lágrimas de Asha lo satisfacen, la segunda fue una inscripción en el piso que exigía una prueba de cansancio y en esta ocasión fue el sudor de la frente de Sir Desventura (el caballero) lo que les permitió seguir avanzando y por último un arroyo pide un tesoro del pasado, así que Amata entrega sus recuerdos dolorosos, los del hombre que la abandonó.
However, upon reaching the fountain, Asha begins to deteriorate rapidly due to her illness; yet Altheda manages to brew an effective potion using local herbs and plants, and after Asha drinks it, she is cured. In this way, the witches are astonished to discover that they did not need the fountain after all, as Asha was already healed. Altheda realizes that her talent for potion-making could earn her far more gold than she currently possesses, and Amata ceases to love the man who had abandoned her—having left those feelings behind in the stream. They ask the Muggle to immerse himself in the fountain's waters; he does so and emerges radiant, discovering that he loves Amata. Yet, at the end of the tale, it is revealed that the fountain held no power whatsoever.
Sin embargo al llegar a la fuente Asha comienza a degenerarse rápidamente por su enfermedad pero Altheda logra preparar una poción efectiva con hierbas y plantas que hay en el lugar, le da la poción y ella queda curada de su enfermedad, de esta manera las brujas descubren con asombro que no necesitan de la fuente pues en ese momento Asha ya estaba curada, Altheda descubrió que con su talento para las pociones podía ganar mucho más oro del que tenía, y Amata dejó e amar al hombre que la abandonó cuando dejó sus recuerdos en el arroyo, así que le piden al muggle que se sumerja en las aguas de la fuete, él lo hace y sale reluciente, descubriendo además que ama a Amata, sin embargo al final del cuento se descubre que la fuente no tenía poder alguno.
All of this demonstrates that true magic lies within each person—in their capabilities and the faith they have in themselves—and, above all, that solutions to our problems should not come from strokes of luck or by waiting for others to solve them; instead, we must use our knowledge and ingenuity to move forward, because there are no problems without solutions.
Todo esto demuestra que la verdadera magia está en el interior de cada quién, de las capacidades que tengan y de la fe que un debe tener en uno mismo y sobre todo que las soluciones a nuestros problemas no deben venir de golpes de suerte, o esperar que los demás los resuelvan, sino que debemos usar nuestros conocimientos e ingenio para salir adelante, porque no existen problemas sin soluciones
All the challenges are overcome collectively; everyone cooperates and contributes something of themselves to move forward. Furthermore, the women showed genuine empathy when they called the Muggle a "man of little faith" for thinking he couldn't reach the fountain first—simply because he was a Muggle competing against witches. This demonstrates that they did not look down on him and believed that everyone, in their own way, possesses the ability and potential to succeed in life. It also shows that working as a team and joining forces allows goals to be achieved more quickly.
Todas las pruebas se superan en conjunto, todos cooperan y ponen un poco de si mismos para avanzar, además, las mujeres demostraron verdadera empatía al decirle el muggle que era un "Hombre de poca fe" al pensar que no podría llegar antes a la fuente por ser él un muggle compitiendo con brujas, esto demuestra que ellas no lo despreciaban y que creían que todos, a nuestra manera, tenemos capacidades y posibilidades de triunfar en la vida. Además, también demuestra que cuando se trabaja en equipo y se unen las fuerzas se logran alcanzar los objetivos más rápidamente.
What really impresses me is that this story was written by J.K. Rowling but exists within the Harry Potter universe; it is part of a collection of tales gathered in a book titled *The Tales of Beedle the Bard*. It serves as something of a magical equivalent to the Brothers Grimm fairy tales—even featuring "sanitized" versions—which demonstrates the author's immense writing talent and fertile imagination.
Algo que me impresiona mucho es que este cuento fue escrito por J.K Rowling pero dentro del universo de Harry Potter, forma parte de un compendio de historias condensadas en un libro llamado "Los Cuentos de Beedle, el Bardo" y es algo así como el equivalente mágico de los cuentos de Los Hermanos Grimm, incluso cuenta con versiones suavizadas, esto demuestra que la autora tiene una grandísima habilidad para la escritura y una imaginación muy fértil.

¡Ahh! Uno de mis cuentos mágicos favoritos junto con Babity Rabity y su cepa Cacareante, otro que también es más o menos del etilo de los Hermanos Grimm es El Corazón Peludo, creo que se llama así.
