PlanetQuest - Sharing My Excitement For This Game
Did you ever want to explore the vastness of space? Did you ever want to scour unfamiliar landscapes, from deserts to frozen tundra, seeking the rarest of artifacts? Did you ever want to...own your own freaking planet?!
If the answer to any of those is yes, especially the last one, then have a look at PlanetQuest!
Hi everyone!
Over the last month I came across this exciting blockchain game currently under development! You may have already heard about it - their userbase on Discord ballooned to over 150k in a very short period of time, with users streaming in from all over the globe. There is a intense energy amongst the would-be players, with everyone excited about the extraordinary potential of the game. Let me give you a quick summary on the game and what I love about it so far.
What is PlanetQuest?
PlanetQuest is a free-to-play, play-to-earn game. At its core, it is earmarked as an exploration, survival and discovery game. When you're not busy fending off hostile alien threats, you will be navigating different planets (including your own), looking for powerful artifacts and collecting the rare substance known as "Quantum". Quantum will have many in-game applications and will act as the token that drives the in-game economy.
What's so special about it?
See the image of the planet above? That beautiful picture was generated by PlanetQuest's labor of love - their proprietary Genesis Engine. The Genesis Engine allows procedurally-generated 3D planets to be created on a web browser.
The composition of each created planet reflects their conditions. For example, an overly warm planet will not be brimming with ice caps, and an arid planet will not have dense vegetation. This exciting technology will not only allow different types of planets and environments to be created, but will also ensure that they are realistic and natural.
And of course, like other blockchain games, you will be owning your gear, artifacts, and other items as NFTs, as well as earning the in-game token while playing the game, which is a great added bonus for any gamer!
What do I love the most?
So the game is still some ways away from being release, with the whitepaper set to be released soon. So what's all the fuss about in the mean time?
For me, PlanetQuest has one of the most incredible and fun (and friendly!) Discord communities that I have ever seen. This is in no small part thanks to the Dev team. While we await, together, the next set of exciting announcements, the team continuously drops interactive stories which make up the lore of the PlanetQuest universe. These stories are subject to vote, with certain choices given to the ever-active community, allowing us to help shape the narrative that we will be partaking in.
The community itself is separated into three in-game factions: the Union (*cough_thebestfaction_cough*), the Empire, and the Federation. These factions may not always have the same agenda...which certainly adds some spice to the on-going story votes.
Final words...
Ordinarily I would just play a game quietly and do my own thing and not at all write about it in a blog post! But I really enjoy the developments that are taking place with this game, so I thought I would try to give something back. I'm cannot overstate my excitement for this game! I thoroughly recommend that you read up more about it!

From here, you can set up your passport, which will give you an insignia (an NFT), representing one of three factions that you belong to. The passport will also let you start earning rewards as you participate in the community. In the near future, these rewards will be minted as NFTs to be used in-game, or sold, or traded - whatever you desire.
