A lot of people refer it as "The Day The Earth Stood Still". I would say, I somehow agree with that. Those days, I would normally turn on my TV when I wake up in the morning. And from the time I heard and watched what happened, I was actually "glued" to the tube for the rest of the day and for days to come. I remember the time when I was almost like that, during the Falklands war.
This year, we commemorate that day, 17 years on.
My thoughts:
Has things changed? Has that event changed something in our lives? Is our world a better place, or has situations got even worse? Wholeheartedly, I can say that things never did get better. It has gotten worst. There is no more places where you can actually say, it is completely, or 100% safe. Paris, London, Berlin, Munich, New York, and a lot more. One can never attend a public gathering without thinking that maybe, something bad will happen.
I cannot think of any way, that somehow, things will get better. People are no longer safe. The threat is always there, somewhere. It may not be like that of hijacked plane or a bomb, but individuals with mindset to kill are growing. They may not be "terrorists", but just the same, they sow terror by the acts they do.
I am still hopeful though. For as the saying goes, "a person without hope, is already a dead person". I am still very much alive, and with every moment, I pray and hope, that with every step I make, I can continue on and make it home safe and well.
