Steemit approver

Some of my friends that want to join the steemit community are finding it difficult to signup.
They said after weeks of signing up they are yet to receive mail or any feedback from steemit.

Is it that steemit is no more accepting new members or what is wrong here.

Because it's more than 7days now and no approval mail.
