Japanese cryptocurrency exchange Coincheck was hacked for over 500 million dollars worth of NEM.
Coincheck was holding the NEM coins in a internet connected "hot" wallet, which is a definite no no.
As a Public Service Announcement, do not store your coins on exchanges. Experts recommend a hardware wallet.
