HOW MUCH DOES A SECOND

All of the ancient civilizations were concentrated on units of long time. But the Babylonians, for example, one of the oldest civilizations, measured years, days, even hours. Of course they did it by watching the sky. How long a day should last was determined by the movements of the Sun and the Moon, and the periods of watching.

However, in the Middle Ages, the practice of dividing the day into clocks and minutes in perfect terms emerged. They called the minute minute minuta prima, which means the first smallest unit. Then they used the term pars minuta secunda, which means seconds divided by minutes. But what it meant at that time was; second smallest unit.

Western Civilization was using the method discovered by the Babylonians. They had to divide everything into 60 because they proceeded with this method called the sixty-sixth. They kept the day 24 hours, but with this calculation, the hours had to be 60 minutes and the minutes had to be 60 seconds.
