handwriting notes is an effective way to do well in your courses because you tend to write down important points that professors say. If you type your notes you have more of an advantage to quickly type everything the professor says and this is not good for learning.

when doing readings, it's always best to highlight key information and have a separate notebook where you write down the key things you highlighted.
using sticky notes to mark important information while reading is also effective
always ask questions about assignments and tests, it's best to make sure you fully understand something in order to do well
always sit at the front of the lecture room, it's better to take notes that way because you're focused as to what is in front of.
