Chaos

I never knew you were my harbor
until at night inner chaos visited me…
Your side of the bed a gaping geography,
the dark humming with teeth.

Chaos , old stalker…
slithered back in on silent soles,
pressed his thumbs to my pulse…
You thought you’d outrun me?

But then…
Your key in the lock,
Your laugh down the hallway,
Your breath in the blackness:
a lullaby in the shape of a man.

Funny how safety isn’t a fortress,
not steel or stone, but the way
Your voice unspools the tension in my ribs,
how your “I’m home”, smooths the tremors
from my hands like a river
wearing down rough edges
gentle, persistent,
rewriting my bones.

And the Chaos?
It still comes, but now
it curls at the foot of the bed,
My mind whispering not tonight
as your heartbeat against my back
conducts the dark
into something more peaceful.
