A close encounter with a sloth
In a visit to the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute, located in Punta Culebra, the first of the three islands connected by Amador Causeway, in Panama City, I had a close encounter with a sloth. There are two different types of sloth, two-toed and three-toed. In this occasion, he was three toed.
Is very rare seeing them near the ground because of their fear of predators, and that's the reason why they spend almost all the time in the top of the trees, so I was very lucky to see him so close.
Sloths have a very cute face
Step by step he was moving by the ropes
Here you can see perfectly he is a three toed
With the Pacific Ocean on the background
Tired of his walk, he returned to the top of a nearby tree
