Ego vs Earth

All of us have a sense of 'I' ness if we can call it that. Or in simpler terms we call it 'Ego' or 'Self'

A basic sense of individuality, a healthy sense of self or ego is absolutely necessary for day-to-day transactional purposes but the problem begins when the individual starts over-rating the ego and thus inflates the importance of oneself.

This is egotism. The dictionary.com website describes the word as:
excessive and objectionable reference to oneself in conversation or writing; conceit; boastfulness.

Among other definitions, the merriam-webster.com website defines 'Egotism' as:
an exaggerated sense of self-importance

Most human conflicts stem from egotism. While self-respect is important to ensure that we don't end up as door-mats, we need to guard against extending the healthy sense of self-respect into an egotistic zone.

Now shifting the focus from the mundane to the cosmos, I would like to use the following Youtube video to give a sense of size and where we figure in the larger scheme of things.

In terms of volume, our Sun can accommodate 1.3 million Earths.
And yet our Sun is considered a dwarf star!
There are Giant stars . . . and Super Giants!!

Thus if Earth is a mere speck in the entire Universe and the Universe also a speck within the Multiverse - What then is our status as individuals?
micro specks? or nano specks? So much for the Ego!!

And yet we bicker & fight amongst ourselves -
within a family
  within an office space
   within a neighborhood
    amongst states within a Nation
     amongst Nations within a Continent
      and among Continents

Guns & swords are drawn at the slightest provocation. Or should we say tickling the Ego?
During our brief sojourn on Earth, can we not co-exist in harmony?

And yet another question that gets thrown up -
Where do we come from & where are we going?
In the mad rush & daily bustle of the world we inhabit, I guess it is a luxury to even entertain such thoughts . . .
