A troubling question.

Some days ago I was reading an article on mosquitoes and their economic importance and the author mentioned that one of the importance of mosquitoes is help in population control because they are vectors of a number of disease causing pathogens that eventually lead to death.
I find this sad and not meant to be right. There are other population control methods and disease aren't part of them. Many die from malaria which is caused by Plasmodium species carried by mosquitoes.
Nearly half of the world's population is at risk of malaria. In 2015, there were roughly 212 million malaria cases and an estimated 429 000 malaria deaths.

So this is just a short post. What do you think about this? Do you agree with the writer's point of view or think he is wrong?

Seems like a dumb argument to me. Population is already set to round off and with the increase of education and resource management, there's no need to have invasive species create mass tragedy
There are a lot of other things for men to die from, so mosquitoes can just as well be extinct and the population of humankind will not spiral out of control.
