Something I Believe That Most People Probably Don’t

Okay, just so you know, I truly believe that boredom is beautiful. Yes, I do know. Most people hate boredom. They view it as an adversary that must be avoided at all costs. There is always a podcast to listen to, a video to watch, or a notification to look at. But me? I think boredom might actually be underrated.

Yes, I have experienced those mind-numbing moments when time seems to be dripping rather than ticking. However, I have also observed something odd: whenever I sit in that boredom for sufficient time, something interesting occurs. My thoughts start to wander, but not in the way of a doomsday scroll. It begins by imagining. Remembering. Connecting dots that I had no idea were floating about.

When I've been doing nothing but staring at the ceiling or waiting in line, I've had some of my best ideas for writing, decisions, or just better understanding myself. I think the problem is we’ve made boredom feel like failure. Like if you’re bored, you’re not being productive enough or fun enough or interesting enough.

However, perhaps boredom is simply space. Furthermore, there is room for something more real to emerge in that area. Your own thoughts. Your genuine emotions. That tiny spark of creativity that is frequently obscured by noise.

So yeah, I believe boredom can be a good thing. A gentle reset in some way. A reminder that it’s okay to just be for a bit. It's likely that most people won't agree. That's cool as well. Apps, playlists, and TikToks are available for that.

But me? I’ll be over here doing nothing on purpose—and lowkey loving it.
