Shape painting exercise
Here’s a fun little exercise that lots of character designers use. For these characters, I started with just roughing in a silhouette, trying not to be too descriptive with the shapes. I then added a layer on top and used the silhouette layer as a layer/clipping mask, and started pulling out forms and features.

That's a good idea.
Looking really cool! I've found that this is one of the best ways to get strong work. I've just recently started to use this silhouettes technique too :)
