Inside Your Hive Wallet: Every Balance and Button, Explained

Every Hive account ships with a real crypto wallet. Not a widget bolted onto a blog, an actual wallet with balances, transfers, savings, and staking, live from the day your account exists. On Ecency it sits at ecency.com/@yourname/wallet, and this post walks through every room in it: what each balance is, where each action lives, and what it all costs.

The cost part is short, so let us get it out of the way. Nothing in this wallet charges a fee. Transfers are free. Powering up is free. Savings are free. Every action spends only Resource Credits, a capacity meter that comes with your account and refills on its own. More on that at the end.

The three balances

Open your wallet and you will see three Hive tokens, each with its own page, chart, and history.

HIVE is the liquid coin of the network. It moves between accounts in seconds, it trades on exchanges, and it is the raw material for everything else in this tour.

Hive Power (HP) is HIVE staked into the network. It is not a separate token so much as HIVE in its committed form. HP is your influence: it sets how much weight your votes carry, and it sets how many Resource Credits your account regenerates. If HIVE is cash in your pocket, HP is your stake in the venture.

HBD is Hive's dollar-denominated stablecoin, designed to track the US dollar. Post rewards pay out partly in HBD, so even if you never buy anything, some will accumulate here.

There is a fourth balance, Points, which we will visit last because it lives a little apart from the chain tokens.

Transfers: sending value like sending a message

On any token's page, the actions sit right at the top. Pick Transfer, type the recipient's account name, an amount, and an optional memo. Confirm with whatever signer you log in with: Keychain, HiveSigner, Ecency Keeper, MetaMask through the Hive snap, or your key directly. The tokens arrive in seconds, with no fee taken out of the middle.

One habit worth building early: memos are public and permanent on the blockchain. Treat them like a postcard, not an envelope. Never put keys, passwords, or private details in one.

Savings: the three day speed bump

Both HIVE and HBD can be moved into savings from the same actions row. Savings balances have one defining rule: withdrawing takes three days. That delay is a security feature, not a limitation. If someone ever compromised your account, they could not drain your savings instantly, and the waiting period gives you time to react.

HBD in savings has a second job: it earns interest. The rate is set by the blockchain's elected witnesses and can change over time, so rather than quote a number that may age badly, we will just say the wallet shows you the current APR on your HBD page, tracks what you have accrued, and gives you a claim button when there is interest to collect.

Hive Power: up, down, and lending it out

Power up converts liquid HIVE into HP instantly. It is how you grow your vote weight and your Resource Credit pool.

Power down is the reverse, and it is deliberately slow: your HP converts back to liquid HIVE in weekly installments over 13 weeks. The schedule is visible in your wallet, you can cancel it at any point, and the slowness is the same idea as the savings delay. Stake that unwinds gradually is stake a thief cannot grab.

Delegate is the interesting one. You can lend part of your HP to another account while keeping full ownership of it. The other account gets the vote weight and Resource Credits, you keep the underlying tokens, and you can end the delegation whenever you like. People use this to help new accounts get moving or to support community projects without giving anything away.

The wallet also includes a built-in swap between HIVE and HBD at ecency.com/market/swap, for the days you want to move between the volatile coin and the stable one without leaving the site.

Points: the Ecency layer

The Points balance is Ecency's own reward system, layered on top of Hive. You earn Points free through ordinary activity, and ecency.com/perks is where the earning lives: posting, engaging, daily check-ins, quests. You can also buy them, but you do not have to.

Points spend on useful things: gifting them to other users, Promote for labeled placement of a post in front of new readers, and Boost+ for a temporary Hive Power delegation to an account that needs more capacity. Coins: External Chain layer

With Metamask integration and linking you get to interact and see your external chain wallets and balances. BTC, ETH, SOL, etc. right inside Ecency, sending, balance, portfolio managing made simple. You can tip other creators these tokens, if creator setup or link their metamask, anyone can start tipping them directly right from Ecency tipping wizards.

Tokens: the Engine layer

Beside native tokens, Ecency Points and External chains, in Ecency wallet you can manage your 2nd layer tokens such as Hive Engine tokens, rearrange which ones are visible, which ones you interact with frequently. All simplified, unified interface.

What it all costs: Resource Credits

Every action above, from a transfer to a delegation, costs the same thing: a slice of your Resource Credits. RC is not a token and you cannot send it. It is a capacity meter that scales with your Hive Power and refills automatically over time. Normal use rarely empties it. Very new accounts with minimal HP can occasionally run low if they are highly active, and the fixes are pleasant ones: hold a bit more HP, receive a delegation, or use Boost+ for a temporary lift.
