Slime Mime

His face reminds me on the many similar crafted faces when I visited Tuscany a long time ago and we went to a little hill-town named "Orvieto".

There we searched for the church in the middle of it and found it in the evening all lit up as to make the art visible to visitors. On the bottom of the church's building there were many creatures carved in stone who suffered a great deal in hell. They had this agonizing expressions on their faces, exactly like your pantomime type here!

What is he spilling out? What does the green slime contain?

P.S. is it because of the contrast, the oh so tidy houses, bricks and squares surrounding him?

Thanks so much erh.germany! :D I looked up some images of Orvieto Cathedral cathedral I can definitely see what you mean about those carvings. Those expressions truly are visceral and wrenching. I'm honored that my drawing reminded you in some way of those masterworks! Thank you for that!

I think I meant for the slime to symbolize the mime's pain, like a flood of rage and despair and frustration which has been building up and festering for years. Like a sorrow too deep-seated to shake loose by crying. It would be nice if that kind of pain would congeal into a humor which could then be eliminated. :)

The suburban backdrop was intentionaI, but I originally meant to make the shading much darker and the textures grittier and more detailed. But when I got to this point I decided that I liked the contrast between the bright, cartoony colors and the tortured expression, so I went with it. Thank you again for your comment and thought-provoking questions!

Yes, I follow my instant thoughts when I look at an artwork. I never question when something associates with me and I let the creator know it. So this face of your figure flashed me with memories from that vacation. Good, eh? lol

Oh, that is good. Especially that you said tears or crying wouldn't be enough as it had stored so much in the guts that it gets extreme. An element would then be good to somehow transport this message of yours somewhere in the picture.

On the other hand, I made my own interpretation as I thought that this nice houses and tidy bricks and balconies were making the person sick as if to confront and remind the all too happy, shiny artificial environment and people of pain and suffering.

I too am enjoying the exchange! One of the things I love about art and fiction is that that the viewer/reader brings their own creativity to the party! :D I love it when an image or story inspires different reactions in people and I love hearing what a given piece of art signifies to the individual! Thank you for sharing your interpretation of this with me! I can definitely imagine the mime is reacting in a negative way to the suburban sprawl and cheap housing all around him!

After reading your comment I did an image search for Orvieto and one of the main images that kept coming up was of the cathedral there. After reading up a little on that cathedral I was able to find some photographs of the sculptures you described. Right away those agonized expressions you mentioned jumped out at me! Scary stuff! I thought of posting some of the pictures here but I’m not sure if they’re copyrighted. A google image search of “Orvieto cathedral sculpture” should bring em up though.

That's what makes art so interesting. There is always room for manoeuvre and there is always a certain uncertainty as to whether the artist's intention or "experience" is the same as the viewer's interpretation of it. Do you already have something new on your blog? I'll go have a look.

Sorry for the slow reply, I've been having trouble finding Steemit time! I very much agree that there is always room for interpretation with art. That's one of the reasons I dig the Finish The Story contests. It's fun to see how different writers interpret that opening prompt. Speaking of which, I noticed you posted an entry! :D I'm looking forward to reading it as soon as I post my own. Just gotta find time to finish it. This week's prompt was very intriguing but I'm terrible at writing whodunits! :)
