Things here are still quite difficult. We have daily power outages, and with domestic gas also scarce, we sometimes have to cook with firewood.

Las cosas aquí siguen siendo bastante difíciles. A diario tenemos interrupciones del servicio eléctrico y, al escasear también el gas doméstico, a veces debemos cocinar con leña.

That's why we have a lot of wood from cut trees lying around.

Esa es la razón por la que tenemos mucha madera de arboles cortados por todos lados.

There was one time when I had to cook, and I managed with sticks and dry leaves to quickly light the larger logs.

Hubo una ocasión en la que me tocó cocinar y me las arreglé con palitos y hojas secas para encender pronto los leños más grandes.

I picked one up from the ground that had been cut a long time ago and thought it was dry. I discovered to my amazement that it had something slightly pink about it.

Tomé uno del suelo que hacía tiempo había sido cortado y crei que estaba seco. Decubrí con asombro que tenía algo ligeramente rosado.

It seems that, after getting wet in the rain and remaining in the shade, some pinkish-orange mushrooms sprouted from it.

Parece que, al mojarse con la lluvia y permanecer bajo la sombra, surgieron de el unas setas rosa-naranja.

Upon closer inspection, photographing and identifying it, I discovered it was a gelatinous fungus I'd seen before on large tree trunks.
I hadn't expected to see it on a splinter of wood lying on the ground.

Al verlo de cerca, fotografiarlo e identificarlo descubrí que se tartaba de una seta gelatinosa que habia visto antes en troncos grandes.
No esperaba verlo en una astilla de madera abandonada en el suelo.
