A Puddle Splashing Walk Through the Woods
I set off on a walk with the pooch this morning. Rain from earlier left big pools of muddy orange water along the track.

The pooch, being a typical labrador, didn’t mind one bit and walked right through the middle, splashing along while I tried to keep dry on the side like normal people!

Fresh rain drops hung off the leaves nearby.

The views opened up to a field of purple heather and green ferns stretching out to the hills.

I stopped to look at a dry stone wall and noticed a hole built into the bottom. These are put in mainly for water drainage, while larger ones allow sheep to pass between fields.

Further down, we came to a high stone stile next to a metal gate, that was padlocked. It had steep stone steps built into the wall. I decided not to try it, as it looked far too tricky for the pooch to climb.

Instead, we tried a loose gravel path that went downhill through the trees. The pooch trotted ahead, but the sharp rocks underfoot were tough. The path was far too painful for my feet, so we had to turn around and head back up.

Bright red rowan berries gave a great pop of colour against the stone walls and grey sky on the way up.

We ended up walking through the wood instead. Tall pine trees reached up to the sky, and firm mud covered the ground, making it much easier on the feet.

Further on, Beeley Brook ran right through the woods. The pooch went straight into the clear water for a quick drink and a paddle.

We came across a much smaller stone stile built into a low wall. This one looked safe, and the pooch managed to get over it better than I did.

Along the way, friendly sheep peeped at us over a stone wall surrounded by high ferns.

It turned out to be a nice little walk. We timed it just right, as it started to rain just as we got back to the car.
