Urban Sketch Study

Hello, everyone and welcome back to emanate artworx!

This time I'd like to share a quick sketch I made recently while I had some idle time at work.

The subject is not the "typical" urban scene with passers-by and such. This sketch is of a small urban parking lot with a basketball hoop on a slightly overcast day. It seemed poetic (or something 😆), and it was a good opportunity to see if I could study a real-life scene in 30 minutes or less. Too bad there was no one playing while I was there ☹️ what a lonely sight.

Reference

Using photos as a reference is great, and using scenes from life is even better because it really forces the creator to be decisive. So, while this sketch is a little rustic, it's just whay I was going for, and I'm pretty satisfied with the results.

Crazy, I thought I took a reference pic, but that is not the case lol. So I snagged what google maps has of this spot on street view. It looked a bit different when they took their picture, but you get the idea. Also, the city is Dallas, Texas, in case anyone was wondering.
