Stubbornness: When It Paid Off And When It Cost Me Much

Whenever I hear the word “stubborn,” I already have a bad definition, and it's terrible when the word is attached to an individual. I'll never see the person positively.
But come on, is stubbornness always bad? Is it as evil as society makes it out to be? The truth is that everyone is stubborn; at one point or another, they have done something influenced by it.
There are circumstances that demand that we be stubborn; if not, we can not scale through. Fear, doubts, weakness, and the like can easily dissuade us.
Stubbornness doesn't know boundaries; it's when they say, “this thing is not going to happen, you are probably wasting your time,” that the stubborn will say, “let me try anyway.”
It's just like a goat that wants to eat something you keep in an open space; whether you send it away countless times, it will still find a way to come back, not even minding whether you are still around or not.
But we must understand that stubbornness is only good when it spurs us to grow and to do good things; however, if it only leads us to do crazy things that affect our reputation, that's bad stubbornness, and we ought not to subscribe to it.
I have been a very stubborn man, chasing my goals and dreams in life. I have also been stubborn in trying new things. Even when all the odds are obviously against me.
There was this pressing iron in my house; it went bad for years, and we dumped it. I picked it up one day, with zero knowledge of electrical gadget repairs, and worked on it, but it failed.
Yet I didn't let it go; after a few weeks, my attention went back to it, and I decided to try something new. This time around, I just changed the wire and boom, it worked. The iron came back to life, and I have been using it without any trouble since then.
Another time, my mother's standing fan stopped working, and I went in and did something to it, and it worked; then it stopped again.
Mom told me not to do anything because she was going to take it to an engineer who specializes in fan repairs, but guess what? As soon as she left the house, I took the fan and dismantled it.
To cut the long story short, I damaged the fan; I couldn't even put it back the way it was before I tampered with it.
When Mom came back, she was really pissed off. I also felt bad, but trust me, I didn't leave that fan; I kept making attempts in her absence to prove a point until the fan became a scrap, lol.
I know I didn't do right; I should have stopped, but do you know that anything could still have happened? I could have still fixed it or made it worse; sadly, the latter occurred.

This kind of stubbornness that strives towards discovery and growth is something we all need to survive in this struggling world, but we must know the limits. There are things we must never insist on or even dare to try.
We must always be logical and thoughtful; let's not put ourselves in trouble while trying to prove a point. It's not always that we should be stubborn. Sometimes, if it's not working, the best you can do is to walk away.

i would like to know some of those words that were not meant to represent negativity
Hahaha, I think this thing is peculiar to all young boys haha 😂
Anger, proud, ruthless, competitive, nonchalant and so on.. these are either good or bad depending on the action performed
your joking right theses can`t be the words your saying 🤣
Definitely, I as well agree that it can be good at times. I'm trying to imagine what you would have said, how you would have felt and what your mum would have said if you were able to fix the fan.
But then, knowing when to pause, continue or take a step back is important.
Thanks for sharing.
❤️❤️❤️
This really changed my perspective on stubbornness. Sometimes what we call stubbornness is actually determination, persistence, and the courage to keep trying despite doubts. But as you rightly pointed out, knowing when to stop is just as important as refusing to give up. The fan story was a funny but perfect example of why stubbornness needs wisdom. 😅❤️
Hahah, I am glad you learned something out of it.. the fan story was actually funny I won't lie
Lol.. they can be either positive or negative depending on how one uses them.. but most people focus on the negative
then i can basically understand this
Haha, I agree with you; stubbornness can either bring good or bad regardless, one must know their limit... Wisdom applies
Exactly 💯
