NEUROMA

A neuroma is an irritated nerve that becomes thickened. In the foot its most commonly seen in the 3rd interspace berween toes 3 and 4 (high percentage are women whit high heels). After conservative therapy has failed then surgical excision is indicated. In the first picture we visualize normal nerve anatomy whit its digital branches. Here a nerve release was performed between digits 2 and 3 due to scar tissue. The second picture shows the neuroma that was exicesed from the same patient between toes 3 and 4. Looks like it would be painful right??
