Why is Coinbase adding etc?
Coinbase is adding etc. Why etc?
Competition
It’s actually traded on a number of fiat exchanges including circle perhaps Coinbase’s major future threat. Zcash is also traded there.
Previous Fork
They seem partial to previous forks like btc. This makes it easier to add and might allow them to pay off Coinbase holders who were entitled tot he fork.
Publicly traded
Etc is one of two currencies that have a traded trust. Obviously a trust with a large premium might make some people seek out the Coinbase version for arbitrage. Dash has a trust in Canada and a zcash trust would be eligible to list by the digits currency group in sept.
security status
Eth seems like it is too big to be called a security or the sec would have moved by now. Etc is in by association with Eth. Other coins without icos like xmr dash would seem to have a good shot.

ETC is long over due on Coinbase! Good hodl coin for long term
ETC is based on exploitation.
Why would people want to pay to abusers and reward their abuse by doing so?
It should be unlisted everywhere.
Why exploitation?
Immutability and mining vs staking are two good considerations vs Eth.
Do you know why the fork of ETH from ETC happened?
Yes, it was meant to cancel immutability, but do you know why?
Because of exploitation.

I don’t think you should get a bailout for bad code. That’s what crypto is supposed to be against. I am sympathetic to the argument that it was an early version. I am glad they didn’t bail out parity. If a small group can change history where are we today? Whatever the reason for the fork, I think it’s an interesting coin today with iohk support, mining vs staking and lower fees. I am not sure staking is he right direction for eth and am glad to have competition.
I generally support differentiated forks.
It’s funny to me you took the time to write this but didn’t think the top level post was worth a vote.
The people that lost their money, or their relative share were not guilty of the code, and you probably know it, so why do you present it this way?

They actually were guilty of putting money they couldn’t lose in an untested virtual computer. I have no sympathy for them. People should take responsibility for thier mistakes. In any case they got their fork with the do over. Why would you begrudge the dissenters from keeping a no do over version Of the code? This precedent that you can fork to avoid an unpopular outcome is horrible. Once something is in the blockchain that should be the end of it. Did bitcoin fork to undo my gox?
