I do wonder if it's safer than electrical ones.

You know...I would probably need to take photos of the architecture that goes along with this type of lamp.

I think they are to be honest. If a gas one goes out the safety mechanism shuts off the gas. And even if there is a leak in open air it's not likely to pose much threat. Electricity has killed many over the years and will continue to so.
