Never Give Up!

Over a year ago I had an unfortunate wakeboarding accident. I pretty much trashed my right knee. Broke the top of my Tibia, ripped my cruciate ligament and then tore my meniscus in more than one place. Ended up going for painful surgery but the worst part was lying on my back waiting for the recovery. It was a slow long process and I pretty much felt like a cyborg with this massive knee brace on my leg. I wore the brace for months but it actually felt more like years.

Finally with regular physio I started walking again without crutches. My recovery was fought with an emotional roller coaster as I found it so depressing to not be able to do much. But mostly I wanted to show my two sons that no matter what happens you can bounce back from anything. This was easier said than done. Finally I gave into failure and realized that I will never get back to what I was and mild pain in my knee most days is just something I will live with. It really did not help getting answers from Dr Google either. As most people with similar injuries had a 4 to 6 month recovery period and I was long past that. Patience is also clearly not one of my best virtues. But surprisingly more or less two months ago I started feeling stronger than I ever had. I started training harder and I am feeling great. I am posting this today because after all this time I managed to do my very first 5km run with no pain after. I really never thought I would ever be able to run again. I know I can't over do it but hey I need a few high fives it was pretty awesome. So for all of you that have or might end up with an injury my best advice is the hardest and that is PATIENCE it takes time don’t rush it. But never give up. We all heal differently.
