Getting Ready to Teach Again

I started homeschooling in the 90s, when there were still few families doing it. Over the years, I helped grow the movement by encouraging friends and teaching specialized classes at coops. After more than 3 decades, I am now the grandmother of homeschooled children and in the coops I am now teaching the children of students I taught. I can't begin to describe how blessed I am!

This year I am teaching at 2 different coops. At one small coop I am doing a new class I call "Literature Out Loud" in which I will lead high schoolers in reading British literature aloud. We will use an anthology and the Bible as our source material (and possibly do only Shakespeare in the spring.) Reading out loud seems to be a dying art, but I refuse to let it go down without a fight.

At the large coop where I am a board member, I am teaching my usual Advanced Math (trig/analyt geometry) and Physical Science, as well as beginner knitting. I have also created a new class I call "Earth-Space-Art" for grades 4-6 in which we will learn about the planets and stars while creating an illustrated notebook and some astronomy-themed art projects.

Teaching keeps me young, and hopefully helps families provide the education they want for their precious children.
