Emotional Allergies

What causes us to overreact to negative stimuli? Why do certain people annoy us for no apparent reason? Could be tied to what I call "emotional allergies." Subconscious thoughts and unaddressed experiences become deeply embedded into our psyche, causing us to lose control of our emotional responses to specific irritants.
