questions concerning ipfs from a non-developer

Dear Steemit-Developers,
i was quite excited to hear, that Steemit would be based on IPFS, I've heard two or so years ago about this protocol, but I didn't thought, that it would take off.
But while recently researching a little bit more about IPFS, i read, that it would have several flaws: Mainly, that anonymity and privacy isn't really taken care off as much as it it could (or should) have been. I based a lot of my knowledge on this https://www.reddit.com/r/darknetplan/comments/6cn0zx/gnunet_vs_cjdnsipfs/ Reddit post.
In this post GNUnet is being denoted as the better alternative to IPFS.
So I have the following questions:
-Have there been reasons for selecting IPFS over GNUnet for Steemit and which?
-Would there be the possibility of replacing IPFS by GNUnet in Steemit?
-I'm afraid, the latter question could probably not be answered affirmatively, so is there effort to make IPFS respect the users anonymity and privacy more, similarily to GNUnet, and if not, would that be against a fundamental design principle by IPFS?
Sincerely, froschonenamen.
